Because of the delay in receiving the 2020 census population data needed for the redistricting process, the Charlotte City Council, on June 28, 2021, approved to postpone 2021 elections to spring 2022. City Council primaries would take place in March.
The spring elections include the mayoral race, at-large and district races. This delay will allow the mayor and current councilmembers to keep their positions beyond their intended two-year terms.
