The city has been conducting a survey to receive input on existing place types that will help inform changes in the Charlotte Future 2040 mapping process. The Charlotte Future 2040 mapping process will be completed using a new tool, Place Types, and will follow a 3-step process.
A first draft of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) is scheduled to be released to the public by Oct. 7. The UDO is connected to the 2040 Vision Plan that was adopted a few months ago and will be the regulatory document to the policies outlined in the Vision Plan.
The city is also utilizing UNC- Charlotte to conduct an economic impact analysis to test some of the recommendations in the 2040 Vision Plan against affordability. This is something GCAA, REBIC and the development community pushed for, and are delighted to see is actually occurring.
Oct 2021 – Jan. 2022 – Public engagement period where the city will receive comments from the public on the first UDO draft.
Mar. 2022 – The city will release UDO draft #2.
Mar – April 2022 – Public engagement & comments received on 2nd draft.
May 2022 – City will release final draft.
June 2022 – City Council will hold a public hearing on the final draft.
July 2022 – Adoption.
