On March 28, the Charlotte City Council approved the adoption of the Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map. This new land-use map will guide how the city will grow over the next 20 years. The plan calls for more density and tries to make Charlotte a more walkable city. The map will replace the current land use plan that has not been updated since the 1990’s and removes the numerous zoning categories the city has today. It goes into effect on July 1, 2022. Planning Staff is now working on a formal process that will guide how amendments to the Policy Map will be made after July 1st .
